LYMM HIGH SCHOOL

Getting Involved with the School

Leadership Opportunities

We encourage all of our students to develop their leadership skills by taking part in some of the many opportunities available, from peer mentoring of lower school students to maths ‘buddying’ to acting as prefects or joining our student leadership team who are involved in making decisions which involve the whole school.

Head Student

Kallika Vyas

I am excited to begin my work as Head Student. Above all, I hope to improve students’ confidence and enthusiasm in their studies, primarily by building upon the success of our paired reading programme and establishing a mentoring system to cover a wider variety of subjects and year groups. I will also strive to immerse students in the wider Lymm community, creating links with local businesses and promoting social responsibility. I aim to set up an initiative which promotes the merits of part-time work as a vehicle for the development of industry-based skills. Finally, I wish to ensure that Life Programme sessions equip students with the necessary skills to enter adulthood in 2025.

Head Student

Elizabeth Nelson

I am very honoured and excited to jointly lead the student leadership team this year! I would love to be able to help create an enjoyable and safe environment at school, I feel it is important for everyone to feel free to be themselves, feel accepted, and feel they matter. Specifically, I am working with pastoral staff to deliver a buddying scheme which will support students in key stage 3. I am also part of a team which is initiating an academic mentoring programme within key stage 4. Outside of school, I enjoy dance and musical theatre, hosting a show on my local radio station, and shopping. I am really looking forward to the year ahead and working with the other members of the student leadership team.

Deputy Head Student

David Baker

I’m really excited to have been chosen as Deputy Head Student. I believe I was selected because I’m dedicated, ambitious and organised: qualities that have helped me in various roles. One of my main aims is to promote the wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities that our school has to offer. I am working alongside staff to set up enrichment fairs to showcase these fantastic opportunities as I believe they are vital for our young people to develop their skill set whilst having great fun too. Outside of school I am heavily involved in activities like Air Cadets and the Model United Nations. These have played a significant role in building my leadership skills. I’m looking forward to using what I’ve learned to support everyone and work on making our school an even better place.

Deputy Head Student

Beth Parkinson

As Deputy Head Student, I aspire to provide greater encouragement and participation of women’s sport, ensuring everybody has a chance to try something new and express their talent. I am organising and delivering events to encourage participation for young women, and I am relishing the opportunity to see students getting involved. I am also part of a team which is developing an academic mentoring programme to provide support for my peers in the year groups below me. This will provide a supportive environment where students can build confidence in their ability and look up to their older role models. I am eager to leave a positive legacy in my role and will work hard to ensure students have an enjoyable, welcoming experience at Lymm High School.

The holders of our senior leadership positions outlined their vision at the start of the year, and they are currently working towards their goals. Grace is striving to improve links with businesses in our local area, whilst Lucy is embedding support for students aspiring to achieve places at prestigious universities. Ed is working alongside our mental health team in school and paying particular attention to men’s mental health. Emily is working along side our eco and charities teams.

However, student leadership goes beyond the senior positions, and it is more than just a job title. We have functional areas which address charities, equality and diversity, mental health, community liaison, environmental issues, and scholars. Our charities team raise funds for MacMillan, Wear it Pink Breast Cancer Awareness, Children in Need, Save the Children along with our legacy hall charities Claire House, Meningitis Research Foundation, Help for Heroes, St Rocco’s Hospice and The Christie. Our Eco Team are working hard with our lower school students to ensure we retain our status as a “National Eco-School”. Along with staff they manage teams for water, transport, and biodiversity.
